Spring Equinox

The equinox is symbolic of balance. When the sun crossed the equator, it means we have roughly the same amount of light and darkness. We are at a precipice as we leave Winter and enter Spring. Winter is the season of introspection, stillness, rest, and wisdom. It’s the time in which we contract and focus on our internal worlds. As we enter spring, we focus on awakening and bringing our internal gaze back out to the world around us.

Spring is the planning season. This means it’s a great time to make plans for the rest of the year and consider what action we want to put into motion. It’s when we put the work into the creation of things and imagine new possibilities. Winter is the season of rest. Summer is the season of growth. So spring is a season of preparation.

Our current society puts so much pressure on output and external success, but those things often speak very little to the state of our actual lives. When we focus on how we want to feel in life or ways we want to be, then our lives can be structured in a way that feels fulfilling and is less connected to extrinsic success that is often out of our control. So when making plans, consider less about all the things we want to do or accomplish and more about how we want to feel or be.

Here journal prompts to aid your planning:

  • What can you forgive yourself for to make space for new growth?

  • How do you visualize balance?

  • What would you like your Fall Harvest to look like? What seeds do you need to plant now?

Ritual Ideas for the Spring Equinox

  1. Spring clean! But not in the way that you may feel obligated or pressured to do. Identify an area of your life that needs tidying and give it some attention. It could be an area of your home, but it could also be an interest, a relationship, or something else entirely.

  2. Greet the sun. For a week, try to get out and greet the sun every morning. Take a walk, do some stretching/yoga on your patio, or open some windows. Let the freshness of the new year come pouring in.
